A squeeze play in poker is a preflop re-raise made after there’s already been a raise and at least one call. The goal is to apply pressure to both the original raiser and the caller—forcing folds and scooping up the pot without seeing a flop.
It works because the caller usually doesn’t have a strong hand, and the raiser might not want to continue facing a big re-raise and another player behind. So, the squeezer uses the dynamics of the situation—not just the cards—to win the hand.
The squeeze play can be made with premium hands or as a bluff with hands that don’t mind folding if they face a 4-bet (another re-raise).
