Slow play in poker is when you play a very strong hand passively—by checking or calling instead of betting or raising—to trap your opponents into putting more chips in the pot.
The idea is to make your hand look weak so others stay in the hand or even try to bluff. Then, when the pot grows and they’re more committed, you spring the trap and go for maximum value.
It’s the opposite of aggressive play—but it works best when used carefully. Slow playing too often or in the wrong spot can backfire, especially if you give free cards that let opponents catch up.
