Jackpot Poker Definition

Jackpot Poker refers to poker games—usually cash games or sit & gos—where players have a chance to win a large bonus payout (the jackpot) on top of the regular game, usually by hitting a rare hand or triggering a special condition.

The most common version is the Bad Beat Jackpot, where a player loses with a very strong hand (like four of a kind) and both players involved share a large prize pool. Other versions include High Hand Jackpots or Spin & Go-style tournaments with random prize multipliers.

Online and live poker rooms often run Jackpot Poker to boost excitement and reward lucky or dramatic moments.

Examples of Where Jackpot Poker Is Used

  • In a live casino’s Bad Beat Jackpot, you lose with quad 8s to quad Queens. You get a chunk of the jackpot payout for the painful loss.
  • On PokerStars, you enter a Jackpot Sit & Go (now called Spin & Go), and the prize pool randomly jumps to 100x your buy-in.
