Hand for hand is a rule used in tournament poker to keep things fair as players approach key payout points—especially the money bubble (the point where the next elimination means everyone left wins money).
When hand-for-hand play begins, all tables stop and play one hand at a time, together. Once every table has completed their hand, the next one begins. This ensures no table plays faster to gain an edge or knock out players quicker. It also prevents stalling (deliberate slow play) to survive into the money.
This phase is temporary and ends once enough players are eliminated to reach the next payout level.
