In poker, BBs stands for big blinds—and it’s a way to measure the size of a player’s chip stack or a bet in terms of the big blind, instead of raw chips.
Since blind levels change over time (especially in tournaments), using BBs helps players and commentators talk about stack sizes in a more useful, relative way. Saying “I have 40 BBs” means you have a stack worth 40 times the current big blind—whether that’s 4,000 chips or 40,000 depends on the blind level.
This term is most common in tournaments and online poker, where keeping track of effective stacks and bet sizing in BBs helps with strategy.
