Deal twice (also known as run it twice) is a rule in poker—usually used in cash games—where players agree to deal the remaining community cards in two separate runs when someone is all-in. The pot is then split between the two outcomes.
This is done to reduce variance. Instead of risking everything on one turn and river, the cards are run two times, giving players two chances to win part of the pot. It’s a way to smooth out the luck when big money is on the line.
Deal twice is only allowed when all players involved agree, and it’s most common in high-stakes or deep-stack games.
You can also hear “run it three times” in some games, but deal twice is the most standard variation.
