In poker, a blind is a forced bet made before any cards are dealt. Blinds are used to start the action and make sure there’s always something to play for in each hand. There are two types of blinds:
Blinds rotate clockwise each hand, so every player takes a turn posting them. They create the initial pot and encourage betting instead of endless folding.
In tournament poker, blinds increase over time, adding pressure and changing strategies as stacks get smaller relative to the blind size.
You’ll also hear the phrase “playing blind”, but that’s something else—it means making a move without looking at your cards (usually for show or fun).
