Drawing dead means you’re still in a poker hand, but no possible future card can help you win. Even if you hit your “dream card,” you’re still going to lose—because your opponent already has a hand that can’t be beaten or tied by any combination of remaining cards.
This is one of the worst positions to be in during a hand. The problem is, players often don’t know they’re drawing dead until the cards are revealed. That’s why reading the board and your opponent’s range is so important.
Once you’re drawing dead, there’s no miracle river card to save you. It’s game over—unless your opponent folds (which is rare once they’ve locked it up).
