In poker, rainbow describes a flop or board where all the cards are different suits—no two cards share the same suit. This means a flush is not possible (yet), which has a big impact on how players read the board and build their strategies.
For example, if the flop is K♠ 8♦ 3♥, that’s a rainbow flop—spade, diamond, and heart. Even if you hold two suited cards, you can’t make a flush unless future streets bring help.
A rainbow turn or river often means that even by the end of the hand, there’s no flush draw, or at most only one possible flush.
A rainbow board means the action will focus more on pairs and straights, not flushes. It’s a key detail that helps you decide how strong your hand really is—and how likely your opponents are to improve.
