Broadway in poker is another name for the highest possible straight. It consists of a ten, a Jack, a Queen, a King, and an Ace, which are the highest cards of a suit. These cards are also referred to as Broadway cards.
The concept of Broadway can be found in all variants of poker that use five cards to form a hand, for example, Texas Hold’em and Omaha.
In Texas Hold’em, if you are holding a ten and a Queen, and the community cards on the board are a Jack, a King, and an ace, you have a Broadway.
In Omaha, if your hand consists of an ace, a king, a queen, a ten, and a 2, and a Jack is on the board, your hand forms a Broadway too.
Broadway is a very high value hand in poker and the highest possible straight. However, it can still lose to the following hands: a flush, a full house, four of a kind, a straight flush, or a royal flush.
When you have a Broadway in your hand, it is common to bet aggressively to maximise the value you gain from your hand. However, you should also take into consideration the community cards on the board, as well as the actions of your opponents and their possible hands.
